Meet David.

David was born and raised in Modesto, California, and graduated from Downey High School in 1978. From 1978 to 1985, he lived in Reno, Nevada, where he accepted Jesus into his life in April 1980 at Reno Christian Fellowship.

In 1985, David joined the U.S. Navy as a Religious Program Specialist (RP) and was assigned to serve with the Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, until 1988. During that time, he served proudly with several infantry battalions, finishing his post at Headquarters Battalion. He reenlisted in 1988 and was then stationed at the Office of the Chief of Chaplains in Washington, D.C., until his discharge in 1992.

In 1987, while deployed to the Korean DMZ, David met the second love of his life—Joy, a kindergarten teacher working at an orphanage founded by her parents after the Korean War. (His first love is Jesus.)

David and Joy are blessed with two sons, Colin and Chris, both of whom have a strong relationship with Jesus and serve the Lord through their vocations. Their daughters-in-law, Blair and Samantha, also love and serve the Lord.

Following his military service, David began graduate studies at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, in 1992. He went on to pursue a second master's degree in Clinical Psychology at Azusa Pacific University in 1994, completing both programs by 1997.

David has been affiliated with the Assemblies of God since 2000 and has served in various roles including Pastor of Pastoral Counseling, Director of Couples Ministries, and Director of Men’s Ministries. After relocating to Texas in 2014, he has continued serving as a Pastoral Counselor at Christ Church and now at Movement City. He was ordained with the Assemblies of God in September 2023.

In his counseling and life coaching approach, David draws from four key “life quadrants”:

  1. Theology – his relationship with God, the Creator

  2. Psychology – understanding his identity and inner world

  3. Environment – the influence of external circumstances

  4. Biology – his physical and physiological makeup

David believes that understanding these four areas helps explain both who we’ve been and who we’re becoming.
